How to Frame Your Art Prints

Framing your new artwork can feel daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. A well-chosen frame will not only protect your print, but also enhance its impact in your home. Below we’ve gathered some guidance to make the process easier.

📏 Print Sizes Available

Our fine art prints are available in the following sizes:

  • 40 × 40 cm
  • 50 x 50 cm
  • 60 × 60 cm
  • 80 × 80 cm
  • 70 × 50 cm
  • 100 × 50 cm

These are popular, widely available dimensions, which means you’ll have plenty of ready-made and custom framing options to choose from.

🛠 Where to Get Frames in Ireland

We’re often asked where to source good quality frames. While we don’t personally endorse specific suppliers, we can share a few names that our clients have had good experiences with. Always check current stock, prices, and delivery times directly with the supplier.

Local Framers (Custom Options)

  • The Frame Foundry (Dublin) — Known for bespoke work and friendly service.
  • The Copper House (Dublin) — Specialists in framing, good customer service.
  • The Frame Maker (Cork) — Affordable custom framing with good customer reviews.
  • Glenart Framing Studio (Louth) — Independent framer, very helpful.
  • The Frame Shop (Galway) A friendly and professional bunch!

These local businesses can advise on mountboards, UV-protective glass, and bespoke finishes to complement your artwork.

Online Option – BGASTORE.ie

Some of our clients have ordered from BGASTORE.ie, an online framing company with a wide range of ready-made sizes. They stock all of the sizes we offer (40×40, 50x50 cm,, 60×60, 80×80, 70×50, 100×50), often with the choice of acrylic or real glass.

  • Typical delivery time: up to 2 weeks (orders ship from Sweden, even though the site is .ie).
  • Price range: budget MDF frames up to premium wood/aluminium.
  • Many clients appreciate the convenience, though we recommend reading reviews to make sure it’s right for you.

🪟 Choosing Glass: Acrylic vs. Real Glass

  • Acrylic (Plexiglass): Lightweight, shatter-resistant, ideal for large pieces or busy households.
  • Real glass (float glass or anti-reflective glass): Provides a classic finish, scratch-resistant, heavier and more fragile — often preferred for smaller prints.

🧩 Tips for Framing Success

  • Stick to standard sizes: Our prints are designed for widely available frame dimensions — meaning you can often avoid expensive custom work.
  • Consider your space: Lighter acrylic glazing may be better for larger prints (80×80, 100×50).
  • Matting (mounts): Adding a mount can make the artwork feel larger and more refined, and it prevents the print from touching the glass. Bear in mind you may need to select a larger frame size if you would like to add a mount around the print.
  • Handling prints: Always use clean, dry hands or cotton gloves to avoid fingerprints when removing from packaging.

✅ Final Thoughts

Whether you choose a local framer for bespoke craftsmanship or an online store for convenience, the key is to select a frame that feels right for your home. Framing is the finishing touch that transforms your print into a piece of art ready to enjoy for years to come.
